Week#4 Discussion Question#2

The current President of United States in my opinion is a good speaker, but not enough to touch the audience hearts. His speeches rely more on the power, then credibility or attractiveness. I listen his speeches honestly just because he is the president and I should listen, not because I necessarily believe in them. Physically, he is good looking, but I will not necessarily consider him attractive. Everybody has his own taste, and in my book he is not the typical man that I will be attracted to. I consider a good speaker to be a person that can move the entire audience with his ethos, and that will create a future window for the audience. Speeches thru ethos are my favorite ones, because it brings up the emotions of the audience which gives a better idea of what the audience expects from you and what they will prefer to avoid into a speech.

  1. I like how your answer to the discussion question was very truthful. I totally agree that our current president lacks ethos. I believe Bill Clinton is an excellent speaker and was also a very good president, not to mention our country was left with a 3 trillion dollar surplus. I believe that most presidents, not all, try to move the audience, but it's hard to do when there is no true emotions put into the speech. Politicians in general need to speak on reality, TRUTH, and what is good for the people. Ethos is what creates a speaker to have a connection with the audience that is capable of moving the audience based on the context that may relate to their personal life.
