Social constructs are generally understood to be the by-products of countless human choices rather than laws resulting from divine will or nature. The human race always tends to look for ways to improve themselves, to develop their culture. As an example of this continues development is the ‘’building words’’. On one way or another people tend to change their language. For example in my native country Moldova the original language is Romanian, but after the USSR in my country a lot of Russian speaking were left behind, so the native language became crooked. What do I mean by that, is that people started to misc the two languages together. Everything became very confusing. People started to build more words, which some of them didn’t make sense unless you are from that region. Because it became so confusing the government changed the legal language from Romanian to Moldavian. I think because of the ‘’Building words’’ my native language became more degrading, not more developed; the sound of the language became more ugly and the Moldavian culture downgraded.
I believe United States to be one of the few countries that embrace the social construction and embrace the freedom of speech. So many cultures are gathered together and so many languages are spoken in this country, that the American culture expends her horizon when it comes to speech and communication between people. It is a nice country to live into.
I really enjoyed your blog post regarding the social constructionist perspective. You did a great job of incorporating your own personal experiences and accounts of what took place during a time of merging cultures/languages and thus communication. Your blog post has helped me put social constructionist into better perspective for myself because I can relate it to your experience in a place that I have never been.
ReplyDeleteI also really like and respect the fact that you ended your post in comparing where you come from to where you are now, in the United States. It is very interesting to read the perspective you have as someone who has such a diverse cultural background. Thank you for sharing.
