Week #6 Discussion Question#3

After I read the chapter 3 and 4 I got fascinated by the concept of ‘’mind reading’’. We tend to mind read everybody all the time, which it is a problem in communication and make false assumptions. Usually this assumptions lead to destroying existing relations and future relations. As an example can serve me at work. A big part of my job it is to sell products to customers, sometimes I mind read the customers that seat at my desk and most of the time I am wrong about what they want and what they need. It is in the human habit to mind read, sometimes is even involuntary. This why at work my manager always gives me couching on how to avoid the mind reading and to not make false assumptions. Also another example can serve the relationship within a couple. We always mind read our partner and sometimes we end up breaking up due to the fact that thought wrong about our half. This are just some of the ugly examples that mind reading can cause, we always have to find ways to avoid it.

Week#6 Discussion Question#2

Men and Women always use language as a tool to empower their personalities and abilities.  Even in the job area is a very common thing to distinguish men and women through terminology. Some of the jobs the way they are name are usually designed for men, like: fireman, policeman, doctor etc. This language is usually used to express the type of the job, which is specifically oriented towards men kind. But now days are a lot of women, which do the same type of jobs as men. Still the language never got changed and women are still struggling to fit in the society.   And is the same for women, they have specific job language, which is typically associated to them, like: secretary, nurse, hairdresser etc. The language it always divides women and men and this is just one of many example, when men and women are differentiated through the language.

Week #6 Discussion Question # 1

I think we all make assumptions about other people and always are judging them. I know, we always say that we don’t, but we always do. And I don’t think that we doing it being ‘’malice’’, but is a naturally trait that it is built in our personalities. I hear a lot of times ‘’I never judge, I always make suggestions or advise’’, but is not true we always judge. Even if we take the words out of the Bible ‘’Do not judge and you will not be judged’’ Joseph 7:1, it is in our nature to judge people around us. Look as an example the so called ‘’Stars’’, we always judging them, even if we don’t know them personally. We look on TV and magazines, we watch and read about them and we take all the positive or negative information and based on that we make our own image about that person. I don’t consider it to be right, but is something that unfortunately we can’t change.

Week#4 Discussion question#3

After reading chapter 9, the subject ‘’race’’ caught my attention. That is probably a subject that is very important in United States due to the multiracial population. The entire United States it is made from immigrants from the entire World. You will not find more race diversity of race then in United States. It is definitely difficult to determine what race you are; a better question will be ‘’what race you not?’’. Everybody have traces of different races in their blood, everybody are mixed. We know that because of the race wars were started. People usually give you each other a status because of the race. As we know the main too race that a dived are the African-Americans and whites. It is stereotype that white people are more privileged and African-American people. Now days are a lot of people that combine more than two races into their blood. They are multiracial, so no title can be given.

Week#4 Discussion Question#2

The current President of United States in my opinion is a good speaker, but not enough to touch the audience hearts. His speeches rely more on the power, then credibility or attractiveness. I listen his speeches honestly just because he is the president and I should listen, not because I necessarily believe in them. Physically, he is good looking, but I will not necessarily consider him attractive. Everybody has his own taste, and in my book he is not the typical man that I will be attracted to. I consider a good speaker to be a person that can move the entire audience with his ethos, and that will create a future window for the audience. Speeches thru ethos are my favorite ones, because it brings up the emotions of the audience which gives a better idea of what the audience expects from you and what they will prefer to avoid into a speech.

Week#4 Disscussion Question#1

When I think about the Public Speaker, one person comes up to my mind and this person is the youngest priest that we have at our church. He is a very memorable person, which stands out by his public speaking thru ethos. He is touching most of the youth by the way he expresses his thoughts, getting deep into the heart of the audience. The priest speaks from present, personal experience and never touches the past. Also his body language is expressing indulgence towards the audience, which makes the audience to open up to a discussion. I really like to listen him speaking, I feel complete and happy after his speeches.
The worst public speaker will probably be my ex-manager. He had a very boring way to express his desires and the work requirements. His voice tone was annoying and was always making me sleep. I was praying for the daily huddle to end quickly and to start my work, so I don’t have to hear him anymore. He was definitely not a leader or a public speaker, that’s was just who he was. Public Speaking is a gift, that not everybody has it.

Week#3 Discussion Question#2

As we know the Pragmatic Perspective views communication as a patterned interaction, so in another words in communication we always have interaction of words and opinions, which supports in a way or another the main subject of the conversation. I consider communication to be a game, because we always tend to play with the words and conceptions in order to formulate a proper conversation. Even without noticing we are getting consumed by the game, it is a psychological game, which gets into our system without a trace. We don’t see the obvious game that we pursue in the conversation, which sometimes makes us vulnerable to objection and conflict from our piers. I personally don’t agree with the fact that is not a game.

Week#3 Discussion Question#3

One of the most interesting topics that I found in chapter 2 was the types of surveys and how they work. You may find it pretty boring and plain, but I found it attention-grabbing. We know that are two types of surveys: interview survey (face-to-face interaction) and questionnaires survey (usually in writing). After reading the material I got to the conclusion that I prefer the questionnaires survey, and specifically which interacts with the psychological perspective. They are used in psychology for measuring attitudes and traits, monitoring changes in mood, checking the validity of experimental manipulations, and for a wide variety of other psychological topics. Most commonly, psychologists use paper-and-pencil surveys. However, surveys are also conducted over the phone or through e-mail. Increasingly, web-based surveys are being used in research. Similar methodology is also used in applied setting, such as clinical assessment and personnel assessment.

Week #3 Discussion Question#1

Social constructs are generally understood to be the by-products of countless human choices rather than laws resulting from divine will or nature. The human race always tends to look for ways to improve themselves, to develop their culture. As an example of this continues development is the ‘’building words’’. On one way or another people tend to change their language. For example in my native country Moldova the original language is Romanian, but after the USSR in my country  a lot of Russian speaking were left behind, so the native language became crooked. What do I mean by that, is that people started to misc the two languages together. Everything became very confusing. People started to build more words, which some of them didn’t make sense unless you are from that region. Because it became so confusing the government changed the legal language from Romanian to Moldavian. I think because of the ‘’Building words’’ my native language became more degrading, not more developed; the sound of the language became more ugly and the Moldavian culture downgraded.
I believe United States to be one of the few countries that embrace the social construction and embrace the freedom of speech. So many cultures are gathered together and so many languages are spoken in this country, that the American culture expends her horizon when it comes to speech and communication between people. It is a nice country to live into.

Wekk#2 Discussion Question#3

As I read through the first chapter, it kind of reminded me about the Comm. 3(Group Communication) and English 1B. I noticed a lot of terminology, which I am already familiar from previous classes; they all comes hand and hand. One of the most preferred topics of mine is the ''symbolism''. I personally like to prepare my speeches brainstorming around a specific topic implementing different types of symbolism. The main reason why I do that is because the colorfulness of the words, which keeps the audience interested in the conversation.
‘’We can make our speeches more interesting if we use a common word to describe a more complex idea. For example, if we are talking about encouraging creative ideas, we can refer to these as "light bulb moments" and we can continually refer in our speech to the importance of making more "light bulb moments" in our life.’’
Symbolism is a huge part of the speech and I think that is important to be incorporated at all times
